How do you retire? Preparation is half the battle. We are happy to help you with a step-by-step plan. This way, you know what to do when to purchase a pension.
The 5 steps
Do you have 10 years left before your retirement date? You can find the ‘My retirement is approaching‘ step-by-step plan on your personal pension page. You can find your pension details quickly and easily here. And every step you take will bring you closer to retirement. The 5 steps are explained below.
Step 1. Check your pension situation
from 10 years before your retirement date
You can check your pension situation on your personal pension page. It is smart to check your pension situation regularly, because you can still influence your pension.
- Simply check how much pension you can expect on your retirement date.
- Complete your pension picture and combine your other pension funds (if any). This way, you can see if you will have enough money to live on.
- See what choices you can make now to influence your pension. For example, by contributing extra money for your pension. Or by changing your retirement date.
- Check (again) with which risk you want to invest. Complete the Profile Selector and decide how we will reduce the risk of your investments towards your retirement date. We will gradually reduce the risk so that you have more certainty about the final amount of your pension.
Step 2. Making a pension choice
7 months before State Pension Age
It is time to look at your pension choices. We will send you the e-mail ‘You are about to retire’. We explain to you what choices you can make to purchase your pension from now on. If you want to know your options, go to ‘Pension benefit: these are your options’.
Step 3. Request quotations
6 to 8 weeks before your retirement date
At BeFrank, we invest your pension, but we will not pay out your pension. To receive your pension benefit, you must first purchase a pension with your pension capital. You yourself will choose which pension administrator to do this with. You will receive your pension from this pension administrator.
To purchase your pension, you must request quotes 6 to 8 weeks before your retirement date. You can do this in 3 ways:
- Via the independent comparison website befrank-pensioenuitkering.nl
- Calculate your pension online, and you will receive an overview of 6 pension administrators.
- Request a quotation without obligation.
- Do you agree? You must pay a €295 formalisation fee.
- Once you have made your choice, you will also be assisted with the processing.
- Via a pension advisor
- Discuss your pension preferences.
- The advisor will ask for quotations for you.
- Make a choice with the advisor’s help.
- The costs depend on the advisor you choose.
- Tip: in some cases, your employer may have already chosen an advisor – ask your employer.
- You can also arrange it yourself
- You can request quotes from various pension administrators yourself.
- Make sure that you always compare the offers and options closely and also look at the additional costs of the pension administrator.
To request quotations, you need your retirement date and your expected pension capital on your retirement date. You can find these on your personal pension page.
Please note: quotations are valid for a limited period.
Step 4. Submit your choice
1 month before the retirement date
You have chosen a pension administrator to pay out your pension. You will receive a transfer document. We will need this to transfer your pension capital to your pension administrator. You can upload the signed transfer document on your personal pension page.
Good to know
- Upload the transfer document 1 month before your retirement date. We will ensure that your pension capital is with your chosen pension administrator on time.
- The transfer document is also referred to as a payment request or expiry form.
- BeFrank will not be able to sell your investments until the date for termination of your employment is known. Your
employer will inform us of this. This date will then be entered under my pension details. You don’t need to do anything for this.
Step 5. Pension transfer
We will sell your investments and transfer your pension capital to your chosen pension administrator. Once this has been done, you will receive confirmation from BeFrank, and you will receive your pension from your chosen pension administrator.
